Glanzstucke: Emilie Floge Und Der Schmuck Der Wiener Werkstatte
By (author) Paul Asenbaum, By (author) Wolfgang Kos, By (author) Eva-Maria Orosz
| book description |
From the outset, the Wiener Werkstatte produced revolutionary jewellery that represented a radical break with tradition: what counted was the artistic idea - and not the value of the material. Wiener Werkstatte jewellery was designed by architects and artists: it featured decoratively inset stones in silver settings instead of brilliant-cut diamonds. This lavishly illustrated publication showcases Wiener Werkstatte jewellery: brilliantly arranged miniature geometric mosaics by Josef Hoffmann are shown alongside pieces designed by Koloman Moser distinguished by clarity of line and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms as well as the extravagantly bold compositions of Dagobert Peche, which exerted a formative stylistic influence from 1915 and already presage Art Deco. The designers Eduard Josef Wimmer-Wisgrill and Carl Otto Czeschka are also represented by masterpieces. The catalogue is supplemented by knowledgeable essays on the Wiener Werkstatte, its jewellery and designers, notably Emilie Floge, the leading exponent of Wiener Werkstatte jewellery and lover and muse of Gustav Klimt. Design drawings, articles from journals and historic photographs complete the publication.
