​Absorptive Capacity ist der limitierende Faktor für die Nutzung des quasi unerschöpflichen Innovationspotenzials von Open Innovation Communities. In vier Fallstudien untersucht Ivo Blohm die Selektion von Ideen aus Open Innovation Communities im Kontext der Absorptionsprozesse und -kompetenzen von Community-Betreibern. Anhand der Fallstudien zeigt der Autor, wie Community-Betreiber Ideen aus Open Innovation Communities absorbieren, welche IT-basierte Kompetenzen dafür entwickelt werden müssen und wie Mechanismen der kollektiven Ideenbewertung, mit denen Community-Nutzer Ideen gemeinschaftlich bewerten können, die Prozesse der Ideenselektion und -absorption vereinfachen. Die Gestaltung solcher Bewertungsmechanismen wird in drei Experimenten evaluiert, in denen Klassifikationsgüte und Akzeptanz von Bewertungsskalen und Informationsmärkten verglichen werden.
