Die Kanonisierung literarischer Texte drückt eine besondere normative Anerkennung aus und zieht die Literaturtheorie in die Gestaltung gesellschaftlich-kultureller Machtverhältnisse hinein. Der vorliegende Band geht darum der noch zu wenig von der Kanonforschung berücksichtigten Frage nach, inwiefern die Literaturtheorie zur literarischen Kanonbildung beiträgt. Mittels einer an Pierre Bourdieu und John Searle orientierten kultursoziologischen Methodik beantwortet die Untersuchung diese Frage am Beispiel der Kanonisierungspraxis von Georg Lukács (1885-1971). In den drei untersuchten historischen Kontexten nahm dieser Einfluss auf die Funktionalisierung des Literarischen und literarischer Texte zur kulturellen Identitätsbildung, Rechtfertigung von Werten und Handlungsorientierung.
