Aus Anlass des 175. Todestages von Karl Leberecht Immermann am 25. August 2015 veranstalteten die Immermann-Gesellschaft, die Heinrich-Heine-Gesellschaft und das Heinrich-Heine-Institut in Düsseldorf eine interdisziplinäre wissenschaftliche Tagung mit dem Thema «Immermanns 'theatralische Sendung'». Ziele der Tagung waren zum einen die Analyse einiger in der Forschung vernachlässigter Tragödien und Komödien der Düsseldorfer Jahre Immermanns, zum anderen seine in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts in Deutschland herausragende neue Konzeption des Düsseldorfer Theaters vor dem Hintergrund der Theatergeschichte des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts, seine Tätigkeit als Intendant 1834 bis 1837 sowie seine Beziehungen zu Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Christian Dietrich Grabbe und Heinrich Heine.
