Die komplexen Erzählstrukturen des Lancelot-Prosaromans werden meist immanent auf Verfahren der Handlungsverknüpfung oder ihre semantische Tiefenstruktur hin befragt und literaturhistorisch als hybride Fortentwicklung konventioneller Erzählformen der höfischen Versromane bestimmt. Andererseits weisen Untersuchungen zur gesamtkulturellen Situation des Romans häufig nur punktuelle semantische und propositionale Parallelen zu zeitgenössischem Wissen nach, ohne unterschiedliche Diskursqualitäten zu beachten. Diese Studie zeichnet narrative Strategien nach, die aus den Interferenzen diskursiver Formationen einen spezifischen, nur im Erzspezifischen, nur im Erzählprozeß erfahrbaren Sinn schöpfen. Über text- und gattungsimmanente Aspekte hinaus kann so die intensive Nutzung dieses interdiskursiven Potentials der Erzählung als wichtige ästhetische Innovation des Romans erkennbar werden.
