Die in diesem Essay vorgelegte Bestandsaufnahme in religionsrechtlicher und theologischer Perspektive zeigt, dass eine zukunftsfeste Veränderung des Religionsunterrichts möglich ist. Schon bisher hat sich der rechtliche Rahmen als hinreichend flexibel erwiesen, um die notwendigen religionspolitischen Aushandlungsprozesse zwischen Staat und Religionsgemeinschaften abzubilden. Für die gebotene Weiterentwicklung des Religionsunterrichts stehen geeignete Pfade bereit.
