Die traditionellen theologischen wie auch philosophischen Anthropologien gehen weitgehend darüber hinweg, dass Menschen altern. Im Gespräch mit den Phänomenologien von Husserl, Merleau-Ponty und Waldenfels, und in Anknüpfung an die narrative Zeittheorie Paul Ricœurs entwickelt Michael Coors ein Verständnis des menschlichen Alterns als narrativ konfigurierter, leiblicher Zeiterfahrung. Theologisch deutet er das Altern des Menschen vor diesem Hintergrund in Auseinandersetzung mit den Anthropologien von Pannenberg und Barth als ein narratives Schema, in dem die Vergänglichkeit menschlichen Lebens in ihrer Ambivalenz zur Geltung kommt. Ausgehend von der Hoffnung auf Gottes erneuerndes Handeln, die der christliche Glaube aufgrund der Verheißung Gottes angesichts des leiblichen Vergehens formuliert, kann Altern als hoffnungsvolles Altern erzählt werden.
