English summary: Jens Koch examines the many forms the letter of comfort can take and puts them in a systematic order. During the past decades, the letter of comfort has established itself as a widespread alternative for the formulation of agreements to the traditional forms of credit collateral. Since however this has not been regulated by law and the terminological boundaries of the letter of comfort are not clearly outlined, its dogmatic acceptance has not been able to keep up with the extent to which it is practised. The classification of the letter of comfort under the law still creates a large number of doubts. As a result of the reform of the law of obligations and the reorganization of insolvency law, the need to clarify this has increased additionally. German description: Jens Koch untersucht die vielgestaltigen Erscheinungsformen der Patronatserklarung und ordnet sie systematisierend. Die Patronatserklarung hat sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten als verbreitete kautelarjuristische Alternative zu den herkommlichen Formen der Kreditsicherung etabliert. Da aber eine gesetzliche Regelung fehlt und auch die terminologischen Grenzen nur ungenau konturiert sind, hat ihre dogmatische Durchdringung mit ihrer praktischen Verbreitung nicht Schritt halten konnen. Selbst bei der am starksten standardisierten harten Patronatserklarung besteht schon uber die grundlegenden Hauptpflichten und infolgedessen auch uber das ubrige Rechtsfolgenprogramm keine Einigkeit. Der Begriff der weichen Patronatserklarung hat vollends jegliche Selektionskraft verloren und wird nur noch als Sammelbezeichnung fur eine Vielzahl unterschiedlichster Erklarungsmuster verwendet. Auf der Basis einer sorgfaltigen rechtstatsachlichen Darstellung untersucht der Autor die wichtigsten Erklarungstypen (einschliesslich der fur die Bankpraxis besonders relevanten Patronatserklarung ad incertas personas) von ihren Voraussetzungen bis zu den Einzelheiten der Rechtsfolgenseite, wobei er auch zur aktuellen Diskussion um eine Konzernvertrauenshaftung Stellung bezieht.
