| book description |

The beetles are a species-rich (ca. 360,000 spp. in the world) and highly cosmopolitan group. However, the beetles of China with approximately 22,100 species have been long regarded as a black hole for global research. This catalogue will serve as guide to the diversity of life in China, summarizing the work in systematics and taxonomy that enable assessment of Chinese faunal diversity and classification. The catalogue provides: 1) a list of available names, both valid and invalid, of taxa occruing in China; 2) a complete list of verified references to primary descriptions; 2) informative distributions of the species and subspecies; 4) recorded host plants of phytophagous beetles. This work is an important contribution toward achieving a universal taxonomic language that insures unambiguous transfer of biological information and should be of great interest to entomologists around the world.
