| book description |
Nika is a Kiwi girl with a Cook Island dad and a Kiwi mum. One of her favourite things is to visit her Papa, who is world-famous in Wellington for cooking the best donuts. He used to sell them at the Newton markets, where Nika's aunties and their mates would use their housie money to buy all the donuts. Because he's not so well he no longer makes as many donuts as he used to. Then there's a wedding to celebrate and he's asked to shine up his donut-making skills for the event. This lovely story lets the reader see what it's like for Nika to be part of a large, rumbly Cook Island family. Meet her many cousins, her aunties and uncles and her nana, all wonderfully characterised by Bruce Potter in his bright and dynamic illustrations. There's also a recipe for donuts at the back of the book for readers to try.
