Marcel Duchamp is often viewed as an ""artist-engineer-scientist,"" a kind of rationalist who relied heavily on the ideas of the French mathematician and philosopher Henri Poincaré. Yet a complete portrait of Duchamp and his multiple influences draws a different picture.
