Stigmata: A Modern Medieval Mystery

By (author) Ted Harrison

| book description |

In the course of Christian history over 300 people have been mysteriously marked with the wounds of Christ's crucifixion. They have had nail prints in their hands and feet and some have reported wounds in the side or the scars of a crown of thorns. The first known case is that of St Francis of Assisi in the 13th century. Since that time the phenomenon has been reported throughout Europe, particularly in Italy, France and Germany. Often the stigmata are said to be accompanied by other strange events. Stigmatics were said to see the future, to be able to levitate, to heal the sick and to remain uncorrupt in body after death. The book includes detailed examinations of the dozen or so well-documented cases from the last 100 years and five modern cases of stigmata. Ted Harrison is the author of Elvis People: The Cult of the King .
